Spotify US launch hits Warner Music snag

 

He doesn’t think ad-supported services work and recently lost a lot of cash investing in the now bankrupt Imeem.  Warner will not, for now, be licensing any further free streaming services although its existing agreement with Spotify in Europe remains untouched.


Without the support of Warner, one of the big four labels in America, it’s hard to see how Spotify can go ahead with its planned ad-supported service as there would  be a huge hole in its catalogue.

Of course, Bronfman may back down or simply waiting for Spotify’s CEO Daniel Elk to make a better offer.


But if Elk does win Warner over it will probably mean restrictions on the amount of free songs users can access, otherwise Spotify would run itself into the ground paying through the nose for what it gives away for free.

Over on this side of the Pond, you can now turn your iPhone into a remote for Spotify on your PC thanks to an app which has just gone live at the iPhone App Store.


After installing a small programme, the third-party app lets you control the Spotify client over WiFi.


You can you can search, control the music playback and volume, tweet the song you’re playing, and even fire up the program from the sofa.
