Speaking to delegates at the Digital Landscapes conference in Dublin, Mr Herlihy said the rise of the cloud will lead to increasingly smart mobile devices that will make desktop computers all but obsolete.
He pointed to Japan where he claimed most research is done on mobiles rather than PCs as evidence for his argument.

Herlihy said it was only a matter of time before Western societies caught up with the trend.
And intriguingly he told delegates that Google’s relentless expansion was in part down to fear of the ‘next Google’.
“The fear is the next Sergey and Larry will come up with a disruptive technology or service that will eliminate the need for Google,” Herlihy said .
