Apple poised to launch “latest creation” next week

Apple has confirmed it will launch a new creation next week as rumours and speculation surrounding a possible ‘iSlate’ reach fever pitch.

The company emailed reporters this morning inviting them simply to "come see our latest creation" on January 27th, which is widely expected to be the unveiling of Apple's eternally-awaited touchscreen tablet computer.

- Apple iSlate to launch late Jan?

- Apple tablet sucks up global OLED supply?

- Orange confirm Apple tablet imminent then change mind

- 22-inch touchscreen iMac launching later this year?

Although tablet PCs have been around for a while, they have mainly been marketed to business users and professional designers. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month, however, we saw a number of new era tablet computers from the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Lenovo.

The real questions will be asked after the launch, when focus will fall on who will be providing what types of content (music, magazines, video, games, books etc) for Apple's new slate.

Recent rumours have suggested that Apple is currently in talks with HarperCollins and a number of other major book publishers suggesting the tablet will be looking to straddle the eReader market.

With all the speculation that has surrounded a possible Apple tablet, it is hard to determine what exactly would be included in such a device. However, general consensus would suggest any iSlate would work very much like an oversized iPhone with a 10-inch screen and cost in the region of $1,000 at launch.

Stay tuned on Jan 27th for all the news, opinion and analysis you need straight from the Yerba Buena Center theater in San Francisco.
