You think computer that runs on Windows 7 would perform a little bit fast if the desktop background is set to solid color. It’s quite surprising that in fact the logon process would actually take 30-second longer than when desktop background is set to use image files.
And Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and has provided a hotfix to fix it.
So if you are on Windows 7 and
- has set a solid color as the desktop background;
- the desktop window Manager session manager service is running, and ;
- log on locally.
you may be effected by this bug. To fix this 30-second delay issue, you can either
Set an image file that has solid color as the desktop background;
Or
Change the DelayedDesktopSwitchTimeout registry key value to 5 in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Or
Obtain the hotfix to get the bug fixed permanently.
If you are like me using fancy themes with fancy high-definition images as desktop background, you can safely ignore this bug.
