Microsoft says it’s “looking at” Office for iPad

Microsoft has revealed to T3 that it is looking at the possibily of releasing Office for Mac for the Apple iPad, although any official word is far from confirmed.

The Seattle-based company told T3, during our private demonstation of the brand new Office for Mac 2011 suite, that although there is nothing to report, it is currently being discussed.

"Yeah, it's something that we're looking at," said Microsoft Senior Product manager Mike Tedesco. "Obviously the announcement (of the iPad) is really fresh and there's nothing to announce or nothing that I can talk to you about today.

"We've had tablet technology forever and both Windows 7 and Windows Vista automatically detect that and you can be running your Office on there."

Obviously, an iPad incarnation of Office would be a massive win for the fledgling creation, and although we're not holding our breath for anything anytime soon, this little snippet certainly gives us hope that we might be seeing Word and Powerpoint coming to the App Store in the future

Microsoft is, of course, getting pretty excited about the HP Windows 7 tablet that was unveiled at CES so we wouldn't be surprised to see that catered for well before Apple gets any love.
