IE painfully slow accessing network drive based webs
I have a performance issue with IE. It’s painfully slow when accessing
disk based web sites across a network share e.g.
file:///V:/testweb/index.htm where V: is a shared network drive. The
problem exists on multiple systems on my network, including an XP
machine with IE8. I can wait 4 seconds (simple page) to 30 seconds
(fancier page with small 60K Flash included) for a page to completely
load.

If I run Firefox on the same machines, the pages pop almost instantly.
If I access the sites from the same client, but via the servers web
server e.g. http://testweb/index.htm it is lightning fast (Exact same
directory, but pulled through the web server instead of direct from
the folders).

The server is a stand alone win2003 machine doing little but file
sharing. No A/D, clients log in with username/password that matches
server accounts. There are no other network performance issues on the
systems or network. The network is up and active, and repeat/recent
access does not clear the problem. The problem has persisted for over
a year.

Any ideas?
