Gran Turismo 5 release takes chart top spot from Black Ops

Gran Turismo 5 has driven into pole position of the UK gaming charts removing Call of Duty: Black Ops from the top step of the podium for the first time since its launch earlier this month.

Released exclusively for the PS3, Gran Turismo 5 has eclipsed all multi-platform titles to take the top spot following a repeatedly delayed and glitch hit launch last Wednesday. The record breaking Call of Duty: Black Ops was pushed to second in the UKIE/GfK-ChartTrack list followed by Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood in third with the persistent FIFA 11 in fourth.

Despite its chart-topping success, Gran Turismo 5 has become only the sixth biggest PS3 launch to date, as single-player loading delays and online multiplayer glitches prevented the long awaited title from reaching its true launch potential.

Data collated by the GfK-ChartTrack has suggested that 94 per cent of GT5’s sales were accounted for by the game’s regular edition release with Collector’s and Signature Edition formats completing the top position sales haul. Despite forking out £150 for their Signature Edition copies of Gran Turismo 5 avid gamers were left disappointed as exclusive car redeem codes reported ‘invalid’ responses from the title’s redeem options.

The nearing Christmas period has affected the all format gaming charts over the past week with Wii Party and Wii Sports Resport titles taking seventh and ninth spots respectively. New releases Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare and Michael Jackson: The Experience debuted at 14th and 32nd in the charts.
