Google Nexus One price drop in the US

Yesterday we reported that Google’s long awaited own-brand phone, the Google Nexus One, hadn’t enjoyed the best start in life, having only sold 20,000 units in its first week in the US. Our suggestion that the all-powerful Google probably wasn’t too bothered might have been a touch presumptuous though, as the phone has just had its price slashed.

Up until today, anyone in the US who’d wanted to upgrade to the Nexus One on T-Mobile had to pay out $379 (£230). With the price cut in effect, this figure stands at $279 (£170).

Not only that, but anyone who’s already upgraded receive a $100 (£60) refund. Very nice too. If you want to have a Nexus One shipped over to these shores, the SIM-free handset costs $529 (£325). Google maintains that a UK version is ‘coming soon’ but it all depends on bagging a UK network – all signs currently point to Vodafone.
