Facebook reveals ultra-light Zero version


The text-only website for low bandwidth users  will, the Bookers say, be easily accessible from handsets without putting a load on network connectivity.

 

Facebook dominates mobile web trafffic in the UK, with almost a third of all page views. The company hopes Facebook Zero will help it maintain its position as mobile internet cascades down tariff bands and into cheaper handsets.

 

It also hopes to repeat its traffic success in developing countries were mobile web is still in its infancy.

The site, zero.facebook.com is a lighter version of m.facebook.com, which is designed to omit data intensive functions such as photo viewing and uploading.
 

Facebook Zero is already online but will only be accessible when mobile operators approve it.
