Oscar-nominated film District 9 has been revealed as the most torrented flick of the ten nominated in the Best Picture category at this year’s prestigious awards ceremony.
The guys at Torrent Talk compiled the illegal movie download figures from several sources including reports from the main BitTorrent trackers. Neil Blomkamp’s directorial feature film debut was head and shoulders above its Oscars rivals with 12,639,000 downloads which includes DVD quality and shaky cam versions of the film.

District 9 beat James Cameron’s 3D feast ‘Avatar’ (11,326,000) to top spot closely followed by ‘Hurt Locker’ (7,930,000) which picked up the Best Picture Oscar, while Disney Pixar film ‘Up’ and ‘Inglorious Basterds’ completed the top five entries.
Torrent Talk were keen to point out that many of the nominated movies had only leaked onto the web in recent weeks while movies like District 9 were available to download for more than a year.
