Apple Corp. opened the virtual doors to its long-awaited Apple Mac App store today. Taking the lead from the phenomenal success of the mobile-centric iOS App Store, the Mac equivalent already showcases over a 1,000 Apps and you can check out our Apple Mac App Store hands-on to see our first impressions. A free download is only available to those on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. More news from the Cupertino Company as Apple files a patent for a gesture controlled, touch-sensitive case for its Nano.
Panasonic made a series of announcements during their CES keynote with its Panasonic Viera tablet offering topping the bill. Panny also unveiled a series of new TVs which are available up to 60-inches. Elsewhere, 12 hi-def camcorders were released and Panasonic bulked up their imaging arsenal with eight new snappers. Staying with cameras and the Olympus’ Pen E-PL2 looks to have been outed ahead of an official CES unveiling. The camera packs an MSC lens with a 28-44mm lens and ISO up to 6400, so at £500, we’re sure there will be a few takers.
Android Tablets continued to cut a swathe through Vegas tech showcase. Motorola had a series of covetous glances cast in its direction with the Xoom tablet launched on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Moto’s 10.1-inch tablet is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor and notably features a 5.0 megapixel camera. Next up is LG, who announced their 10.1-inch LG Slate Android tablet was on the way, with that tablet-friendly OS, Android 3.0 Honeycomb on board. Last, but certainly not least is the BlackBerry 4G Playbook. Boasting the de rigueur 10.1-inch screen, the Playbook claims to deliver speeds 10 times faster than standard 3G. The downside is the lack of 4G networks in the UK means we’re unlikely to see it here in Blighty anytime soon.
Sony unsuprisingly unveiled its’s usual array of sleek tech with 3D very much heading the feature queue. First up was the ‘world’s first consumer 3D camcorder‘ providing double full HD with two 1080p sensors and two processors. Next up was the Bloggie camcorder which can offer HD 3D recording. Keeping with the ubiquitous 3D theme, Sony also paraded its 3D head-mounted displays, which took style pointers from Back to the Future. Another, admittedly smaller company hoping for a slice of 3D pie, was our very own Cambridge Audio, who unveiled their first 3D Blu-ray player, the 751BD which comes with the usual array of multi-media support.
