Google has outed a non-final preview of the Android 3.0, Honeycomb, SDK allowing developers to get a head start on producing apps for the tablet-friendly OS.
Although developers will be forced to wait a further few weeks for the final SDK to launch before they can submit Honeycomb compatible apps, the API and system image free preview offers the first insight into Google’s first tablet-centric mobile operating system.
Targeting the new breed of Android touting iPad challengers, Google’s latest OS edition will include a variety of tasty new features with high-performing 2D and 3D graphics, support for multi-core processors, encrypted storage, password expiration and a new dual-pane email UI for increased user-friendliness all safely covered off.
One of the most notable additions to Honeycomb will see a system bar taking up residence at the base of the screen offering up instant access to notifications, system status updates and navigational options.
First demoed when Google’s Andy Rubin took to the stage sporting the then unnamed Motorola tablet, Android 3.0, Honeycomb, will officially launch alongside the high-specced Motorola Xoom tablet in the coming months.
