WMP11 "security upgrade" for Overdrive Media Console

Finally found a fix – thanks to an old (2007) post – here’s what worked for
me.

1. change folder views to (a) show hidden files and (b) unhide protected
files (my computer / tools / folder options / view …. then check "show
hidden files" and uncheck "hide protected files…"

2. Go to c:\documents & settings \ all users and RENAME (right click) the
file called DRM (I changed mine to backupdrm).

3. Make sure that everything is closed – no IE, no WMP, etc. then from the
Overdrive program, hit tools/Windows Media Player Security Upgrade and …..
voila! Overdrive will automatically launch WMP, and then you go through the
prompts to get the security upgrade.

ahhhh, the sweet sound of "you have successfully installed WMP security
upgrade…"
