Force updating to next release is not new thing for us, Developers may need to force users to upgrade to latest version of application or software for several reason which may include critical vulnerability, compatibility issues etc. Microsoft has started forcing Windows Live Messenger users to update to latest Windows Live Messenger 2009.
Those users who don’t like WLM 2009 for some reasons won’t be able to downgrade to v8 since it won’t let you to login until you upgrade to WLM 2009. Now here is solution for those users, WLM “no update” patch which will stop Messenger to force you to update.
It works only with v8.5.1302.1018 (the last pre-2009 version) and v8.1.0178.00. The patch is simple and safe, it only changes the version information, making Messenger pretend it’s v2009 so MS leaves you alone.
WLM “no update” Patch
The patch also includes WLM uninstaller to let you to uninstall & remove WLM. It supports all versions but it’s only really needed for v2009 (earlier versions can be normally removed through Control Panel).
