All of this was fixed by refreshing the DisplayName and Description
settings for the wscsvc key — so apparently the damage was just cosmetic.
The strings are pulled out of the dll, and not set directly to the registry
value. I used the settings from another machine. It is not very reassuring
that the values became invalid at some point.
