[Tips] Clearing Memory Cache to Speed Up Your Windows 7

I usually have at least 10 applications running at the same time, and I usually don’t shut my computer down when I leave for home at the end of the day. The result, it leads to a gradual decrease in performance until I issue a reboot. Killing apps without rebooting mostly doesn’t help too much. Yes, it does release some of the memory but the processes associated with the app I kill usually are not released completely. They accumulated over the time eating the resources without any contribution.

So, any better way that helps reduce number of reboot?

Here is one tip that may help in some degree. It’s a simple command that calls the advapi32.dll with utilizing ProcessIdleTasks parameter, which basically clears up unused memory. Not that the parameter is case sensitive, so make sure to type in exact format.

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

You can simply run it through the command prompt window. Or better, create a shortcut that links to the above command in a place where it can be launched easily, since you will be running it quite often.

Right-click the empty space on your Windows 7 desktop, and select New –> Shortcut.

Type in the command letter by letter in to the box.

Click Next, and type in the name of the shortcut. Click Finish once you are done.

Now you have created a shortcut on your desktop that will clear up unused memory when launched, in a hope of speeding up your exhausted computer.
