Samsung Galaxy Tab contract price rumoured

As we said in our recent three-way tablet showdown, the only thing really stopping the new Samsung Galaxy Tab from truly contending with Apple's iPad is the ludicrously high price point - £799.99 RRP, to you, sir. However, with the Galaxy Tab's SIM card slot, many will be shying away from the unlocked version and picking one up on contract.

Good news from accross the pond, then, as US service provider Sprint will reportedly be providing the Galaxy Tab for an easier-to-swallow $399 with a two year contract (or roughly £250), according to Boy Genius Report.

By comparison, a 3G 16GB Apple iPad (the same amount of storage as the £799 Galaxy Tab) costs a mere £529, so a massive discount on the contract Galaxy Tab's asking price makes sense if Samsung are to have any shot at undercutting Apple's current domination of the tablet market

How prices will differ when the Galaxy Tab launches here on October 30th remains to be seen, but as a benchmark £250 on contract is a very reassuring development. Check out our hands on Galaxy Tab review for an idea of what you'd be signing up for.
