We’re extremely excited to announce Revision3’s partnership on a new campaign with our friends at charity:water. I’ve personally been aware of this organization for over a year now, and have been impressed with their efforts to raise money for an important cause using social media and other online methods. I recently saw charity:water founder Scott Harrison speak in San Francisco and became totally converted to being a full-on supporter. Scott is an amazing speaker and his passion for this cause is unmatched and unendingly inspiring. You can check out some footage of one of his talks. As he mentions in that video, 100% of the money charity:water raises goes straight to building wells. They raise their administrative funds separately though large individual donations.
After hearing Scott speak, I immediately wanted to help this organization and their cause of bringing clean water to the developing world. It’s the most basic of human needs that we take totally for granted while over a billion people in the world don’t have access to it. As soon as I told the team here at Revision3 about this cause, everyone was immediately and passionately on board. We began working on a custom strategy with Lane Wood and Paull Young of charity:water so that we could activate you, our fans, to take part and participate in raising as much money has possible. The metrics are simple: every $5000 raised builds a well. If a show can raise that $5000, a well will be named after it once it’s built. Imagine a Tekzilla or Diggnation well giving clean water to these communities…and the fans made it happen. That’s the goal here! Each show will see how much its fans can raise.
There are a ton of ways to get involved, especially at this time of year where we’re all thankful for so many things. Make donations, tweet out to your friends to get them involved, give up your birthday and take donations rather than gifts, etc. Getting creative is the key to activating your community! We’ll highlight some of the great ideas you come up with on our various shows. Be sure to email us (info AT revision3 DOT com) and let us know what you’re doing to activate your friends!
