Today AdultCopyrightCompany has filed another copyright violation complaint against almost 10,000 BitTorrent users, making it the largest mass lawsuit ever. With this complaint, the number of accused reached 17,000 and keeps growing.
If you think it’s still the music industry which makes it into history with their ill “sue-em-all” litigation campaign, you are wrong. The efforts of the music industry are becoming pale when compared to the exploits of the porn industry, where AdultCopyrightCompany is targeting alleged file-sharers by the thousands, not hundreds.
Now, the AdultCopyrightCompany files a legal complaint on behalf of West Coast Productions. 17,000 people are now accused of copyright infringement in its largest mass litigation campaign, and it keeps counting: 10,000 people were alleged today, plus 7,000 targeted two weeks ago. This makes it the most aggressive anti-file-sharing campaign ever, close to the 18,000 the Recording Industry Association of America targeted. However, it’s worth noting that the music industry did that over the course of five years, while porn industry only needed two weeks.
The AdultCopyrightCompany informs everyone on its site that they should check with your family members and visitors before disputing the download and suggests to settle, because the more effort the company expends on naming those accused individually in a lawsuit, the more it expects to recover.
Actually, the first lawsuit, launched against the 7,000 file-sharers, occurred just a couple days after an event called the “Content Protection Retreat”, where some porn studios gathered to co-ordinate their efforts in figuring out how to fight the increasing piracy that put adult industry at great risk. The aim of the event was to develop a strategy allowing them to reduce the piracy of porn material by 2012. Now, it seems like the effort of the AdultCopyrightCompany is a part of that strategy.
Unfortunately, their strategy is the same as that of the music industry. The result is not difficult to predict – the industry might manage to extract settlements from thousands of individuals, but finally the technology will prevail, as usual. Even if the industry managed to prevent unauthorized file-sharing of copyrighted material, there’re still websites streaming the same content.
