Got high hopes of getting a Nokia MeeGo phone this side of Christmas? Well, we’re sorry to say your already slim chances have been dashed by Nokia’s new CEO, Stephen Elop.
In a conference call following Nokia’s quarterly financial results, Elop said that while he was excited by the new operating system, the, “…first MeeGo device will be a 2011 event”.
This comes as little surprise, what with the OS in a state of flux after a series of senior changes at the Finnish phone giant. But it does confirm that Nokia’s plans to release a phone using the OS by the end of 2010, something they were firm on back at its unveiling at Mobile World Congress, have hit the skids.
The much-mooted N9 is being touted as Nokia’s first MeeGo phone and its latest effort to play catch up in the smartphone space. Has Nokia made the right move? Or does this make MeeGo less relevant than ever? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
