Nikon outs slim S800 compact cam with 10x optical zoom

Nikon today lifted the lid on the latest addition to its popular Coolpix range, the S8000, which is the world's skinniest compact camera to boast a wide angle, 10x optical zoom lens.

Although that seems a little bit of a mouthful, at just 27.3mm thin, it definitely has jeans-pocket-friendly credentials worth shouting about as it's also shoehorning 720p, 30fps high definition video and 14.3-megapixels into its slight figure.

There's also four, no less, anti-blur functions to serve up stable images, as well as the Creative Slider on-board image editor that allows you to alter brightness, colour saturation and tone right there on the 3-inch LCD screen.

Nikon is also claiming that its autofocus system is DSLR-comparable, and there's an impressive ISO setting of up to 3200, which will lead to some better snaps in low lighting conditions.

The Nikon Coolpix S8000 will come in Champagne Silver, Brown and Black and will be available for £249 in mid February.
