The Newspaper’s Publishing Association (NPA) argues the corporation “muscling” into the market will make difficult for other UK news organisations to make any money from apps, whether through selling apps, subscriptions or ads.

And it rejects the BBC’s claims that the news and sports apps would just be an extension of its internet services.
The NPA – whose members include all of the UK’s national newspapers – says smartphone apps are a completely new market and it will be raising its concerns with the BBC Trust, the Government and the House of Common’s media committee.
Newspapers have previously complained about the dominance of the publicly-funded BBC in internet news arguing the resources available to it make it impossible for commercial players to compete.
