New Apple iPhone patents break cover

Apple is once again the talk of the town after filing two new patents which hint at what may come in the fourth incarnation of the iPhone. If used, the new iPhone could come with a front facing camera and location sharing software.

The location software would work via texts and instant messages, with the user sharing their location with friends. The inclusion of the software looks likely as Apple denied the similar functioning Google Latitude app a place in iTunes store last year.

The proposed addition of the front-facing camera also appears to be a logical step forward as Apple will look to unlock the possibilities of facial recognition and the inevitable iChat.

To date the most significant update to the iPhone has been the introduction of 3GS. If these latest rumours are to be believed then this will be the biggest overhaul of the smartphone to date. Added to the fact that new add ons to the current iPhone are still coming thick and fast, 2010 is shaping up to be another ground breaking year for Apple.
