Mac App Store opens: Hands-on screen grabs

It’s here, after a festive period spent waiting for Apple’s Mac App store, the software shop has landed on Mac via software update. We’ve just made the leap, and here’s what’s on offer:

Once you’ve installed the App store and either set up or logged in with your Apple ID, you’ll be taken through to the ‘Featured’ section of the app store, which looks a like a cross between its iPhone counterpart and the iTunes store, as you’d probably expect.

You can then search for either paid or free apps, as well as by categories or for any updates. Interestingly, several categories don’t yet have images to accompany them, which is a bit of sheen missing from an otherwise sturdy looking Apple roll out. All apps allow user reviews, although at the time of writing none have been posted.

Apps fly into straight the dock as they download and install, and are ready to use in a flash. Click the link above to see our gallery of hands-on pics.
