During the rather awe-inspiring HTC press conference at MWC, on Tuesday, CEO Peter Chou told us there’d be no favouritism and that everyone who wanted could get a piece of new handsets like the HTC Desire and HTC Legend.
Three days later and self-styled underdog 3 Mobile has lept on those words to announce it will be carrying the HTC Desire – the handset shaping up to be the company’s best Android phone yet.

That brings the total of UK networks queueing up to stock the phone to five. HTC has ensnared 3, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2 meaning that the company is playing with a full deck ahead of the April launch.
The non-discriminatory blanket release plays into HTC’s deliberately-humble ‘quietly brilliant’ marketing stance, but also tells us how eager the big networks are to get their hands on the device.
The Desire boasts specs similar to the HTC-made Google Nexus One, with a 3.7-inch OLED screen, the Android 2.1 OS, a new incarnation of the Sense UI, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 5-megapixel camera with a flash.
No pricing schemes have been announced on any of the networks as of yet, but you know the score, it’s likely to be free from around the £35-a-month mark, on a lengthy contract.
