With the launch of the once mysterious Nexus S almost upon us, the Android community is again excited. Not only for the launch of Samsung’s new Google branded handset, but for the fact that the Gingerbread source code will be made available real soon. Oh yeah, real soon could mean as early as Friday!
Android developer Jean-Baptiste Queru has posted this on his Twitter account earlier today…
@jbqueru – Gingerbread will be in AOSP soon after Nexus S ships. Future details will be sent to android-building.
Basically it means that after the Nexus S ships tomorrow, Google will make the Android 2.3 Gingerbread available in AOSP. There is no exact date given, but it could come anytime after tomorrow. 
AOSP is the Android Open Source Project. This is where all the developers go and get the code to build all our custom Roms, that we so dearly love to install. The same place where developers like Cyanogen go to grab the latest Android source code. Modders, Devs, or Rom chefs all use the AOSP build to compile custom Roms.
So this was really big news for the real Android community, we expect to see Gingerbread Roms available for device like the Nexus One, G1, and EVO anyday now.
