Android 2.2 FroYo is now sitting pretty on most phones using Google’s mobile OS. That’s according to stats straight from Mountain View, which also show that while Android 2.x has taken hold, a worrying number of phones are still stranded on last year’s editions of the operating system.
The full breakdown as 2.2 FroYo on 43.4 per cent, 2.1 Eclair on 39.6 per cent, while Android 1.6 and 1.5 users still account for 16.9 per cent of the phones out there. Still, with 83 per cent on the Android 2.x, at least most punters are getting to grips with the very latest features.
These numbers are expected to change, however, with the arrival of Gingerbread 2.3 in the next few weeks. But with FroYo having taken so long to rollout on devices packing custom skins, expect the changes to be gradual.
