FIFA 11, the latest edition to EA’s hugely successful football gaming franchise has become the fastest selling sports game of all time, its developers have reported.
Released in the US on September 28th, three days before touching down in the UK and the rest of Europe, FIFA 11 has reportedly clocked up over 2.6 million unit sales netting EA almost £100 million in the process and eclipsing the sporting games sales record previously held by its predecessor FIFA 10.
Having broken opening weekend UK sales records and with sales up 29 per cent on last year, Peter Moore, President of EA Sports said of the FIFA 11 launch: "We’re thrilled at how fans embraced FIFA 11 last weekend”. He added. "This is a landmark achievement for EA Sports – we’ve shattered sales records at retail, critics are praising FIFA 11 as being one of the most authentic and innovative titles ever, and fans are connecting and competing with other gamers around the world and have logged a record number of online connected game sessions".
The connecting and competing that Moore spoke of is in response to the busiest two day period of online play every seen by EA as FIFA 11 fans flocked online to do battle across the globe.
