I use windows live mail. Many times I’ll check email and the syncing process
has completed checking my email accounts, but it is stuck on an attempt to
sync the calendar. Consequently, email has not been synced since the moment
that the calendar sync failed/hangs.

Is there a solution. It works most of the day and suddenly decides to hang.
The solution has been to close live mail and open it again–once I had to
reboot the computer.
